Paul Melmon Joins Wily as Vice President of Research and Development

Burlingame, CA - July 9, 2001 - Wily Technology, Inc. (www.wilytech.com), the emerging leader in Web Application Management, today announced the appointment of Paul Melmon as vice president of research and development. In his new role at Wily, Melmon will oversee the strategic direction and implementation of all engineering and QA activities for the company.

Melmon brings an extensive background in engineering to Wily. He previously served as interim vice president of engineering at Saltare, a leading provider of supply chain management solutions, where he was responsible for the development of all technology and engineering strategy. He also served as CIO at Pets.com where he was instrumental in defining and developing the company's technology and operations infrastructure. Formerly, Melmon worked as an entrepreneur-in-residence at Sutter Hill Ventures and also held engineering and management positions at Wallop Software, Scopus Technology, Sybase and Hewlett-Packard.

"We are thrilled to be adding Paul to the Wily team," said Lewis Cirne, founder and CEO of Wily. "Throughout his career, he has consistently placed himself at the forefront of high-tech innovation and thus is extremely well suited to help Wily continue delivering leading-edge Java-based performance management solutions such as Introscope. We welcome Paul and look forward to having him drive the continuous improvement of our software and customer satisfaction."

"This is an outstanding opportunity for me," said Melmon. "As J2EE quickly becomes the standard for deploying high-performance technology solutions, Wily is in a unique position to experience considerable growth. In addition to meeting the increasing need for component-level monitoring of mission-critical live production applications, Wily is poised to expand its expertise and leadership role in performance management as the use of Java-based technology expands into other areas such as Web services, Web transactions and wireless Web applications."

Unlike other performance solutions that monitor applications from the outside, Wily's Introscope is a comprehensive solution that manages the entire system by analyzing performance from within the application itself. By working from the inside out, Introscope manages the performance of third party Java code (i.e. application servers), JDBC database, distributed requests (RMI and CORBA) and can pinpoint performance bottlenecks whether emanating from an internal Java application component (Servlet, EJB, method) or caused by an external interface such as the security server or database.
