is using Wily's Introscope® to maintain optimal performance
of its hosted benefits solution, which sustains millions
of page hits per day. Based on this initial success, Hewitt
is now extending its use of Wily to other mission-critical
Java applications throughout the worldwide organization.
Hewitt is a large global management consulting and outsourcing
firm specializing in human resource (HR) solutions. Hewitt
handles more than 53 million HR-related customer interactions
a year from more than 12 million participants. One of Hewitt's
most popular offerings is the Total Benefit Administration™ (TBA)
system, a robust, Java-based benefit administration system
that provides employee data in real time. Using the Wily
Introscope family of Web Application Management solutions,
Hewitt provides customers of its hosted TBA system with highly
responsive, around-the-clock availability even during the
peak open enrollment period from September through December,
when the system receives millions of page hits per day.

Revamped TBA System Includes Wily's Introscope
Hewitt implemented Wily Introscope as part of an upgrade
and re-architecting of its TBA system to the IBM WebSphere
Web application server in 2001. The HR services provider
retained Tivoli for system management and Patrol to handle
database and system monitoring, but it required a new set
of monitoring and management tools to give them visibility
into their production Web application. After evaluating solutions
from both application and system management providers, Hewitt
chose Wily Introscope. Key reasons for the decision include:
- Comprehensive, deep insight - Wily Introscope monitors
the performance of live production Java Web applications
and pinpoints the exact cause of performance bottlenecks
whether inside the application at the component level or
outside the application in an external system such as the
database server, security server or any back-end system.
- Rapid implementation - Hewitt needed to have the revamped
TBA system fully deployed before the big fall enrollment
push of 2001. The company was able to establish proof
of concept with Wily Introscope in just one week.
- Integration with IBM WebSphere - Introscope is directly
integrated with WebSphere, allowing automatic implementation
and monitoring. Additionally, Wily has developed Introscope
PowerPacks, which offer advanced monitoring for WebSphere
and other IBM platforms utilized by Hewitt, including
CICS.
- Flexibility -Introscope works in any Java environment.
