Wily Technology
Sets the Standard for Enterprise Java Application Management
with Introscope® 4.0
Next Generation of Wily's Leading Solution Offers Advanced
Features For Ensuring High Application Availability and Superior
Quality of Service
Burlingame, CA - Jan. 21, 2003 - Wily Technology, the leader
in Enterprise Java Application Management, today announced
the general availability of Introscope 4.0, the next generation
of Wily's leading Java application management solution. Version
4.0, which is already being used to monitor real-world production
environments, sets the standard for enterprise Java application
monitoring by further extending Introscope's deep visibility
into the Java application environment, enhancing the flexibility
of Wily's easy-to-use dashboards, and providing invaluable
new tools for application diagnostics and optimization.
Used by companies worldwide, Introscope offers a Whole Application
View into the entire application environment, allowing
IT teams to identify performance problems whether inside
the application itself, the application server, or in back-end
transactional and supporting systems. Introscope's Blame
Technology isolates bottlenecks in production applications,
application servers and back-end systems all the way down
to individual Servlets, JSPs, EJBs, Classes, Methods and
more. Wily's patented low-overhead agent technology allows
IT staff to manage live production applications and their
operating environment 24x7.
"We've been using Introscope to monitor multiple applications
for some time now and it has been a significant tool for
us," said Bruce Brissette, senior software engineer
at Experian, a leading provider of global information solutions. "Introscope's
deep visibility into the Java application environment allows
us to quickly pinpoint application bottlenecks to better
ensure optimal performance. Version 4.0 offers even greater
value by extending Introscope's visibility into non-Java
supporting systems and allowing us to isolate performance
problems in individual transactions. Introscope's new free-form
dashboards allow us to create even more flexible views of
our Java environment."
Introscope 4.0 Sets the Standard With New Functionality
Introscope 4.0 offers significant new enhancements to Wily's
industry-leading Java application management solution, including
new free-form dashboards and Introscope's Environment Performance
Agent (EPA), as well as two new complementary products
that extend Introscope's deep insight into application performance.
New free-form dashboards offer Introscope 4.0 users
a flexible and scalable graphical representation that mirrors
their unique managed application environment. Graphical images
that represent physical or logical entities in the application
environment may be placed on the dashboard along with traditional
viewers such as graphs and stop lights to provide a virtual
representation of the managed environment. Wily's new dashboards
allow each team member to monitor live data that is most
meaningful to them. It facilitates knowledge transfer among
different groups within the IT department and simplifies
the problem resolution process.
Introscope's Environment Performance Agent (EPA) monitors
live performance and availability data from non-Java sources
to help IT staff to obtain a better overall view of the entire
application environment.
On-screen reporting of worst components allows IT
personnel to more quickly identify problem components causing
performance problems in live Java applications.
New administrative controls provide Introscope administrators
with the ability to control the data viewed and actions available
to Introscope users.
Extending the functionality of Introscope 4.0 are two invaluable,
complementary new tools for application diagnostics and optimization
that are part of the Wily 4 family: Introscope LeakHunter and
Introscope Transaction Tracer.
- Introscope LeakHunter identifies hard-to-find potential
memory leaks in J2EE applications-a major obstacle to achieving
high levels of application availability. It allows IT personnel
to better ensure application availability by eliminating
memory management problems that cause performance degradation,
unpredictable execution or application crashes.
- Introscope Transaction Tracer tracks individual
problem transactions in live production systems and allows
IT personnel to identify the components in the transaction
path causing performance degradation. Through the detailed
tracing of individual transactions, this tool arms application
support personnel with the data they need to analyze and
correct erratic transactions and transaction-specific performance
problems.
"Introscope 4.0 represents an outstanding advancement
in Java application monitoring," said Lewis Cirne, founder
and CTO of Wily Technology. "Introscope 4.0's extended
visibility into non-Java systems and invaluable new tools
for ensuring application performance and availability give
enterprise IT teams the best means available to deliver exceptional
Quality of Service. Customers worldwide are using Introscope
to save money on application maintenance costs and to offer
exceptional user experiences for those whom the application
serves."
Built on Wily's patented monitoring technology, Introscope
4.0 allows IT staff to monitor, improve and manage enterprise
Java applications in each stage of the application lifecycle.
It gives application support personnel the ability to quickly
isolate and resolve performance issues when they arise. Introscope
4.0 provides a common language that operations, QA and development
personnel can use to proactively maintain application availability
and eliminate finger pointing. Wily's Introscope is the only
platform-independent Java management solution that is fully
compatible with any Java IT environment. A proven solution
used by Global 2000 companies, Introscope 4.0 helps enterprises
achieve fundamental business goals by meeting three essential
criteria for successful application deployment: higher availability,
better performance and greater control.
Introscope 4.0 is Cornerstone of Wily 4
Wily Introscope 4.0 is the cornerstone of Wily 4, the industry's
first comprehensive Java application management solution
for production systems. The flexibility of Wily 4 allows
it to meet the management needs of any unique Java application
environment while integrating with both enterprise management
processes and systems management frameworks. Complementing
Introscope 4.0, Wily 4 also features the new Introscope Transaction
Tracer and Introscope LeakHunter application optimization
and diagnostic tools, as well as a range of PowerPacks-extensions
to Introscope that monitor interactions with key systems
such as transaction servers, databases and Java connectors.
Key functionality of Introscope 4.0 includes:
- Application monitoring of the performance and
availability of EJBs, JSPs, Servlets, Classes, Methods,
JTA, JNDI, JDBC, CORBA, RMI, JMS, Socket Activity, File
Activity, XML and more. Monitoring is enabled by Wily's
patented Blame Technology, which pinpoints the exact
component causing problems, and on-screen reporting of
the worst performing components for instant problem identification.
Monitoring also includes production JVM Multi-image load
balancing statistics, memory usage, and CPU utilization.
- Application server monitoring includes advanced
monitoring of WebLogic via JMX and of WebSphere through
its built-in PMI system. Additionally, Introscope PowerPacks
for application servers complement Introscope 4.0 to provide
tuning and configuration management.
- Back-end support systems monitoring includes Introscope
SQL Agent for performance monitoring of Oracle, DB2,
Sybase and JDBC databases at the SQL statement level and
optional PowerPacks, which provide out-of-the-box monitoring
of IBM CICS Transaction Gateway and IBM MQSeries.
- Application diagnostics and optimization are provided
by two new optional products: Introscope Transaction Tracer
for isolating bottlenecks in individual transactions and
Introscope LeakHunter for identifying memory leaks.
- Heterogeneous environment performance monitoring is
delivered via the Environment Performance Agent (EPA).
- Systems management process integration is supported
by free-form dashboards and user access control for Introscope
administrators. Introscope 4.0 offers direct integration
with system management frameworks using dynamic MIB support
and provides console integration with HP OpenView,
Tivoli Enterprise Console®, BMC Patrol® and CA
Unicenter. Other features include SmartTrigger Alerts
for event notification via e-mail, pager, native APIs or
messages, and out-of-the-box historical trend and capacity
reporting.
