Wily Technology
Sales Nearly Tripled in 2002
Demand for Wily's Application Management Software Accelerates
as Fortune1000 Firms Increasingly Recognize Gains Linked
With Delivering Superior Web Experiences
Brisbane, CA January 30, 2003 Wily Technology,
the leader in Enterprise Java Application Management, today
announced that sales for 2002 nearly tripled compared with
sales for 2001. The gains, which enabled Wily to exceed its
revenue goal for the year, were aided by continued strong
sales growth in Q4 2002, which ended December 31, 2002.
Demand for Wily's Introscope® application management
solution for enterprise Java applications continues
to accelerate as more Fortune 1000 companies make it their
solution of choice for optimizing the performance of their
mission-critical, Java applications thus ensuring
a predictably superior user experience for their customers.
These organizations realize that among customer-facing enterprise
Java applications, fast response and 24X7 availability are
closely linked with brand value. Research firm Newport Group,
Inc. (1) recently reported that 53 percent of the IT organizations
it surveyed in 2002 seek feedback on the performance of their
applications and systems up 800 percent over IT groups
interviewed in 1999. The firm attributed this increase to
the growth of front-facing, revenue-generating applications.
Financial services firms compete almost solely on their
customers' service experiences. In Q4 2002, they accounted
for several of Wily sales extending Wily's market
dominance in the banking, investment banking, consumer credit
and insurance sectors. Key financial services sales in the
fourth quarter include ABN Amro Services Company; American
Funds Service Company; CDS Inc., a subsidiary of the Canadian
Depository for Securities Limited; Discover Financial Services,
Inc.; Franklin Templeton Companies, LLC; HSBC Bank plc; The
Options Clearing Corporation; and TIAA-CREF. Other key customer
wins in Q4 2002 include Acxiom Corporation, RJ Reynolds Tobacco
Company, and Telstra Corporation Limited.
"As we move into 2003, we see a growing recognition among
Fortune 1000 companies that the customer's Web experience
significantly impacts an organization's revenue-earning potential reaching
multiple millions of dollars per year," said Dick Williams,
president and CEO of Wily Technology. "Our customers, who
are leaders in their industries, are investing in Wily's
application management solutions to pinpoint performance
issues with precision and eliminate downtime among the mission-critical
Java applications they deploy to sell products and deliver
services. Many are quickly finding that ensuring a superior
customer experience translates directly into stronger loyalty
and new revenue opportunities."
Wily Extends Technology Leadership
Wily Technology has continued to extend its leadership in
Enterprise Java Application Management. On January 21, the
company announced the availability of Wily 4, the next generation
of its comprehensive Java application management solution
for production systems. Used by enterprises worldwide, Wily
4 is an essential solution for helping companies to achieve
critical business objectives by delivering application availability,
performance and control. Key components of Wily 4 include:
- Introscope®, Wily's flagship Java application monitor,
which is the cornerstone of Wily 4. In use worldwide by
many Global 2000 enterprise customers, Introscope monitors
production Java applications and isolates performance bottlenecks
with component-level precision. Version 4.0, which is now
generally available, offers several new features such as
extended support for monitoring non-Java sources, enhanced
flexibility of Introscope's customizable dashboards, on-screen
reporting of the worst performing components, new administrative
controls and other enhancements.
- New Introscope Transaction Tracer, which identifies
individual problem transactions and allows IT personnel
to isolate the components causing bottlenecks in the transaction
path.
- New Introscope LeakHunter, which identifies hard-to-find
potential memory leaks in J2EE applications—a major
obstacle to achieving high levels of application availability.
Wily 4 also features Wily's family of Introscope PowerPacks
and extensions, as well as Wily's worldwide Services and
educational offerings. Built on Wily's patented agent technology,
Wily's solutions deliver unparalleled visibility across the
entire Java application and application server platform to
quickly pinpoint performance problems. As a result, customers
are able to identify performance problems within minutes
or hours that previously would have taken weeks or even months
to find. These organizations can ensure the high availability
and performance their customers demand from production applications
and roll out new customer-ready applications more quickly.
Wily has established close partnerships with BEA, Hewlett-Packard,
IBM, Oracle and Sun Microsystems, so that applications built
on these companies' platforms can be automatically monitored
for performance issues.

Wily has continued to expand its business operations in
the US and around the world. The company will be moving its
