Wily Technology's
Byte Code Instrumentation Technology Adopted as Industry
Standard in J2SE™ 5.0
Brisbane, CA – September 30, 2004 – Wily Technology,
the leader in enterprise application management, today announced
its contribution and commitment to standardization of Java
application management in the latest release of the Java™ 2
Platform, Standard Edition, J2SE™ 5.0, launched today
by Sun and the Java Community Process. Critical elements
of Wily's pioneering byte code instrumentation technology
that manages the world's most critical applications has now
become adopted as the industry standard for monitoring and
managing enterprise Java applications through JSR 174 and
JSR 163.
As the industry pioneer of Java application management,
Wily was selected by Sun to bring its revolutionary technology
into the Java platform. Wily and Sun have worked together
to implement key innovations of Wily's byte code technology
into Sun's most significant release of the Java platform,
J2SE 5.0, to bring best-of-breed application manageability
to the Java industry. Wily Technology's chief scientist,
Jeff Cobb, led and wrote elements of the reference implementation
for JSR 163 which adopts Wily's approach to monitoring application
availability and performance. These new features of J2SE
5.0 provide specifications for monitoring and management
of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). The integration of Wily's
technology with the J2SE 5.0 platform is a powerful combination
that constitutes the industry's first and only comprehensive
solution to provide automatic, component-level visibility
across the entire Java-based, composite application infrastructure.
"Application management is critical to continued adoption
and success of the Java platform as the foundation for mission-critical
applications, which is why manageability is a central pillar
of J2SE 5.0," said Calvin Austin, J2SE 5.0 Specification
Lead for Sun Microsystems. "By leveraging Wily's pioneering
and innovative technology, we are creating a management standard
that will improve the quality and efficiency of the Java
platform."
Furthermore, by enhancing application deployment through
monitoring and management, enterprises reduce the loss of
revenue from application downtime, increase customer satisfaction,
sustain employee productivity, and speed time-to-value of
application projects. J2SE 5.0 is the most reliable and manageable
release to-date, which means employees, partners and customers
stay up and running longer - saving enterprises an estimated
cost-savings of millions per year from application downtime.
"Wily has worked with all the major infrastructure
providers, such as BEA, IBM, Oracle and Sun, to integrate
its automatic management capabilities into their respective
application server platforms," said Jeff Cobb, chief
scientist at Wily Technology, Inc. "We are now taking
our instrumentation technology and innovative approach a
step further by contributing it as a standard in the Java
platform, to better ensure that enterprises deploying critical
Java applications have the means to effectively monitor and
manage application performance. Wily is proud to have played
an important role with the Java community in developing one
of the most significant releases of the Java platform."
