Application Performance Management Solution Minimises Software Problems at the Swiss Life Insurer
London — September 20, 2005 — Wily Technology and its application performance management solution Introscope are often called into companies already beset with massive performance problems with their Java applications. Leading insurer Swiss Life decided to take another route: the company proactively ordered a visit from Introscope® to prevent performance bottlenecks from occurring in the first place.
The partnership with Wily came about through adhoc Performance Engineering Solutions (PES) AG in Switzerland, a Wily business partner. adhoc (PES) AG specialises in performance engineering, in other words, the definition, validation and analysis of performance requirements during all phases in the lives of complex software systems. In this way application availability can be raised, impairments caused by performance problems can be kept to a minimum and the overall operating costs greatly improved.
Swiss Life primarily uses Introscope® to monitor how mission-critical web applications communicate with each other via central middleware. This process, called asynchronous messaging, means that no direct connections are made. Instead, communication is made up of various sections and fragments thus making it difficult to detect interruptions as soon as they occur. A breakdown in communications could for example lead to a delay in data synchronisation between one application and another. Swiss Life can now pre-empt this before it happens: Introscope® from Wily assesses the messaging streams and shows administrators in easy-to-read dashboards precisely where data logjams may occur.
The data API in Introscope® sealed the deal for Wily – it enables all messaging data to be configured and correlated. "No one else seems to integrate the messaging streams into the monitoring tool as simply as Wily does," says Leonardo Graf, Senior Software Engineer at Swiss Life. "Wily provided us with the right foundation to get a powerful monitoring solution up and running with very little effort."
On top of that, Swiss Life found Introscope® to be the perfect tool for its application server monitoring, enabling the insurer to make decisive time savings when investigating the cause of performance bottlenecks.
